Give Me Courage

When a Transylvanian Monk told her fortune as a child, Romanian Lenuta ‘Hellen’ Nadolu’s future was laid before her in a few sentences. What she didn’t then know was the courage she would have to muster to get through that life.

As a little girl Hellen learned that overcoming hardship could foster resilience. The struggle for her personal freedom began in Romania, a male dominated society. She married against all odds and her path took her to Ghana, Africa in the 1970’s, where not only was the society dominated by men, but polygamy was accepted and encouraged by tradition.

Hellen was left with no option but to flee, at great risk with her three children. In 1984 Hellen finally found freedom for her family in Australia – ‘the land at the end of the world’.
